Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow has apologised after making an insensitive joke about Alan Rickman’s death.

Jon faced a backlash of criticism from viewers after interviewing Richard Wilson, who’s best known for his role in* One Foot In The Grave.*

Jon asked Richard if he knew that his friend Alan Rickman – who lost his battle with cancer last week – was dying.

Richard responded saying, "I did", to which Jon replied, “So it wasn't a case of 'I don't believe it' then?"

The joke was in reference to Richard’s character Victor Meldrew’s famous catchphrase.

After backlash on social media, Jon tweeted: "I apologise unreservedly it was a mistake in the heat of a sad moment."
