For anyone who wasn’t sure if Joshua Jackson and Lupita Nyong’o were really dating, we were presented with some pretty solid evidence last week.
After jetting off to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico to celebrate Lupita’s 41st birthday, the pair were pictured strolling along the beach and very much showing off their love for the world to see. And despite the sizzling nature of the pictures, we’re told this is categorically not just a physical thing.
“Joshua and Lupita are madly in love. This is so much more than a fling – they’re totally exclusive and planning a long-term future together,” a source tells heat. “Anyone who has seen them together will vouch for their chemistry, which is so hot, it’s insane. They literally can’t keep their hands off each other when they’re together.” Well, when you’re that hot, it’s pretty much a requirement to be that obsessed with each other.
The pair were first rumoured to be dating towards the end of 2023, shortly after Joshua, 45, split from his wife of four years, actress Jodie Turner-Smith. The pair share one daughter, Juno, who is four next month. Lupita had also been in a relationship, with US TV host Selema Masekela, but announced her split from him in a dramatic post on social media just weeks after Joshua and Jodie split. She wrote, “I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception”.
But now, we’re told, she feels she has found the real deal. “Lupita is telling friends she’s found herself her very own Prince Charming, and Joshua feels he’s found his perfect match in her. He’s totally moved on from his divorce – there’s no animosity between him and Jodie, and she’s actually giving him the thumbs up and is pleased he’s happy with someone else. They’re co-parenting just fine and there’s no drama there, even though things were a little tetchy to start off with when they first split.
“For her part, Lupita had a bad experience in her last relationship, and ended up heartbroken and feeling very betrayed by Selema.”
Referring to her candid post about her break-up, Lupita said recently, “I was living in a lot of pain and heartbreak. I looked at the environment of my social media and thought, ‘I don’t want to be a part of this illusion that everything is always coming up roses. Surely there is a lesson for me to learn in this, and I just want to be real about it’.”
Jodie, 37, also recently spoke out about her split from Dawson’s Creek actor Joshua, explaining that it was a decision made mainly for daughter Juno. “Sometimes things we really want to work just don’t end up working,” she said in a recent interview. “And that’s OK. The most important thing is that you choose what’s healthiest for you and your family and definitely your children.”
And while our source admits some people have been a little taken aback at how quickly Joshua and Lupita seemed to move on from their previous relationships, we’re told, “Joshua’s just going with the flow and saying it feels so special and so right. They’re very much in the honeymoon phase, loving every moment, and everyone’s super-happy for them.”
