Jonathan Rhys Meyers has written a thank you message to fans for their support after he was pictured looking scruffy and drinking a bottle of vodka in the street.

His fiancée Mara Lane posted a selfie with Jonathan, as well as the thank you message.

Jonathan wrote:

“Mara and I are thankful for your support and kindness during this time. I apologise for having a minor relapse and hope that people don't think too badly of me.

“I stopped drinking immediately and it is no reflection on [upcoming film] Damascus Cover as I was not meant to attend Cannes this year and I apologise to fans and colleagues.

“I am on the mend and thank wellwishers and sorry for my dishevelled appearance. I was on my way home from a friend’s and had not changed.

“I feel I made a mistake and feel quite embarrassed but this was just a blip in my recovery, otherwise I'm living a healthy life.”

The actor has had a well-publicised battle with alcohol that has seen him enter rehab several times in the past.

We hope than Jonathan is doing well and is back on the road to recovery.
