Kanye’s got a history of using the stage to get his message out there – remember the 20 minute rant at last year’s Wireless Festival and we bet Taylor Swift won’t forget when he interrupted her acceptance speech at the 2009 VMA’s to say that the award for best female video should have gone to Beyoncé.
But his actions at the Grammy’s last Sunday – he stormed the stage when Beck collected the award for Album of the Year, instead of Bey – could be a thing of the past… Speaking exclusively to heat’s Ryan Seacrest, Kanye, who attended the Grammy’s for the first time in six years, explains his ‘joke’ outburst and says he WON’T go to the Grammy’s next year unless the award’s voting system reflects popularity.
“I would not go unless I sit with Neil [Portnow, president of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences], Jimmy Jam [producer]” he says. “And fix the voting system to be more inaccord with the popular votes because the popularity is what’s needed to sell commercials. A revolution of inspiration can only be had when the older generation combines with the younger generation.” Right then.
Kanye says he didn’t mean to take away Beck’s moment nor disrespect him, and compared his actions to that of a chiropractor of all things! Or did he actually mean he was a pain? Tune in to the Ryan Seacrest show on heat radio at 2.30pm tomorrow to hear the interview in full.
