Instagram was once a place filled with beautiful filtered-to-perfection snaps used to illustrate your life. We all adored it when it first came out in 2010 – mainly because it was waaaaaay prettier than FB there were NO ADS, none at all.
Fast forward seven years and Insta is still BOOMING and we still spend 761511516 hours scrolling on our commutes.
However, not a day goes by where we don't see a celeb flogging diet pills, protein shakes or make-up ranges and we've all become accustomed to the #spon and #ad tags popping up here, there and everywhere.
It's kinda tres annoying.
We'd definitely flog some weird hair growth tablet for an extra few quid though - wouldn't you?
And it's not just the TOWIE and Geordie Shore stars who are gunning for some money on the side, big time A-Listers do it too and they're the ones that make the MEGA BUCKS.
The Kardashians, aka the most followed people in the world ever, are more than happy to do a sponsored ad every now and again.
Kim, Khloe and Kourtney are so valuable that most of their income comes from Instagram sponsorship.
Michael Heller, CEO of digital marketing firm Talent Resources told Us Weekly that some companies have been known to pay up Kim up to $500,000 to share branded posts with her 95.1 million followers.
And according to Heller, Kim’s sisters Khloe (64.3 million followers) and Kourtney (54.5 million followers) can earn up to $250,000 per ad on Instagram.
However, unlike many other ad obsessed celebs, the Kardashians are v.picky about what they choose to sponsor.
Kim tends to promote brands she has equity in – such as Kimojis and Kendall is keen to stick to brands that she's worked for in the past - like Calvin Klein.
"They only endorse what aligns with their lifestyle," says Heller.
"They turn a lot down."
