Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy - the lead singer and guitarist of Muse - have split up and ended their engagement, rumours had been circulating for a while, but they’ve now been confirmed by Kate’s people in, erm, People magazine of all places.

Speaking to People magazine, Kate’s spokesperson said: “Kate and Matt have been separated for some time now.

"Despite this, they remain very close friends and committed co-parents."

The pair became engaged in 2011 and have a two-year-old son together called Bingham. Kate also has another child named Ryder, 10, from her six-year marriage to Black Crowes rocker Chris Robinson which ended in 2006.

Speaking on US talk show The View earlier this year, Kate had said that she already felt like a married woman:

"We're married - I mean, we've got kids and a family.

"I think if we do get married it'll be for the kids really, whereas, for us, we're just happy."

"There is something beautiful about the security of marriage, but we'll get there when we get there."
