Kate Winslet is refusing to boycott The Oscars over the recent race row because it could mean missing her “closest friend” Leonardo DiCaprio winning his first Academy Award.
Kate’s comments follow a number of actor and actresses vowing to skip the ceremony over the dominance of white actors on the nominations list, while not a single black Asian or Hispanic performer is up for a Best Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor or Supporting Actress Academy Award.
Speaking at the launch of her new film, Triple 9, Kate admitted: "To be honest with you it has been such an extraordinary year for women I'd feel like I was letting my side down if I didn't go.
"And also I feel very strongly that it may possibly be Leo's year, and he is my closest friend in the world and I just couldn't imagine not being there to support him. And I think those are reasons enough really to show my face."
Kate is up for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Joanna Hoffman in Steve Jobs, and Leo is praying for a Best Actor gong for The Revenant after six years of nominations but no little gold men to take home at the end of the night.
