Katie Hopkins has sparked outrage after mocking celebrities who tweeted to pay tribute to the late Cilla Black.

Sad news of the legendary singer and television personality’s death broke today after she passed away in her sleep at her home on the Costa del Sol in Spain.

Many stars took to Twitter to offer kind words and memories of Cilla after hearing the devastating news, leaving professional troll Katie less than impressed.

She tweeted: “If there are any celebrities who haven’t yet tweeted their sadness over Cilla, please report to Sincerity Services immediately #rushtogush.”

Unsurprisingly, the comment did not go down with fellow users of the social media site.

One person replied: “You’ve said some callous things in the past – but this insensitivity over the death of an icon is abhorrent. Go & do one – b**ch!”

Someone else responded: “You abhorrent, insensitive, pond scum of a woman. How can you make a comment like that? Are people not allowed to pay homage?”

Another Cilla fan tweeted: “That’s too far Katie! She had lots of friends who were celebrities. It’s a shame you don’t have ANY friends isn’t it.”

Attempting to defend herself, Katie hit back: “I understand people love Cilla. But the race to proclaim this on Twitter is a curious thing.”

However, it did not stop the disapproval from followers, with one responding: “And your race to tweet disrespect is a curious thing to most people but that doesn’t stop you does it!”

Another replied: “It’s a bit like the race your mouth has to spout foul bilge before your brain can stop it. Seems your brain is never quick enough.”

And another wrote: “It’s called respecting and loving someone, something you won’t actually have unless you ease up on the nastiness.”

Too far, Hopkins...
