Poor Katie Piper. The TV star has had to miss out on her daughter Belle's first birthday this week because she's in hospital - after complications following on from routine throat surgery.

Katie tweeted announcing the news to her fans: "Thanks for all the birthday tweets for Belle! Unfortunately I'm in hospital but her dads tell me she's had a lovely party x."

The Daily Mail reports that she had surgery to widen her oesophagus - a routine procedure following on from the horrific acid attack she endured from her ex-boyfriend in 2008.

A source told the paper: "There was a slight side effect to the procedure causing the oesophagus to tear and causing air to leak into her body which is obviously very dangerous. She’s stable now but sadly had to miss her daughter’s first birthday."

Katie had been due to spend the day with her daughter and fiancé Richard James Sutton, but sadly had to stay in hospital. Luckily she seems to be on the mend, and is in a stable condition. She tweeted:

"Hoping tomorrow will be discharge day from hospital for me! 7 days without my daughter – feels so cut off".

Get well soon, Katie!
