We’ve had a sneaky listen to Katy Perry’s new single Chained to the Rhythm

IT'S SO GREAT

KATY PERRY CHAINED TO THE RHYTHM

It’s been about seven minutes since we heard the first verse and chorus of Katy Perry’s new single and comeback track, Chained to the Rhythm and we already can’t wait to be slightly tipsy, dancing, spilling prosecco on ourselves as we wave our hands up in the air bellowing, “To the rhythm, to the rhythu-u-uuum!”

We predict that this will be the world’s favourite activity come February 10th.

We were if not the first, one of the first people in the UK to hear the track this afternoon, before its release on Friday. Katy tweeted for fans to “Leave your bubble (and bring your headphones)” with a pink map showing a disco ball over Leicester Square.

We absolutely pegged it down and ran for the disco ball chained to the metal fences and stuck on the headphones, where we were treated to a verse and chorus of her new pop masterclass.

This is how we image the song got created – Katy and Sia were tipsy, in one of Katy’s many disco rooms, surrounded by disco balls and wearing rose-tinted sunglasses, dancing in improbably high heels and they birthed this song – with Max Martin somewhere hiding, ready to polish it all into glittery pop-perfection. And that is the best description for how it sounds.

Lots of fans have tweeted us asking us to record the song, but we don’t think Katy would’ve loved that. But we can fill you in on some of the lyrics, which we hurriedly scrawled down in our phone as a queue gathered around us. There’s a classic party line, “Turn it up it’s your favourite song!” before the “rose-tined glasses” make their first appearance. The chorus includes the line, “I think we’re free, We roll, chained to the rhythm, to the rhythm”.

Many have speculated that the song could include a performance with Skip Marley – Bob Marley’s grandson, and he doesn’t make an appearance in the small snippet we heard on loop, but we can see how it could definitely work as part of the track.

For now though, Katy’s kept us simply wanting more… just like she always does.
