2016 has been THAT year. It’s been a whirlwind of bulls*it really, hasn’t it?
And it looks like Katy Perry’s fifth album release has reportedly been pushed to early next year (and maybe it’s just as well because 2016, eh).
Apparently Katy is holding off on the album because she’s been inspired to write more songs. But these aren’t just any songs – they’re songs about the US presidential election result.
Katy was a key public figure supporting Hilary Clinton’s campaign – she also admitted that her parents were voting for Trump, which must’ve been SUPER painful for her. But she’s used all of it as a source of inspiration for her new album.
A music insider told The Sun: “As such a vocal Hilary Clinton supporter, she was heavily involved with the presidential election but was shocked at how volatile it became. She hopes her new music can inspire healing, peace and unity after Trump’s win.”
They added: “She had the album ready to release by the end of the year but...has been inspired to write new songs which she wants to add to it.”
We totally respect Katy’s choice and can’t wait to see what she comes out with. It’s been three years since Katy released an album – her last one was Prism back in 2013.
Are you ready for this new music era? Because we DEFO are (especially after hearing Katy’s comeback single Rise earlier this year).
The source also said: “Katy has reworked the direction of her album so it reflects what she believes to be unsettling and changing times.”
