Is Katy Perry set to perform at the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show?

The hitmaker could be a WAIT FOR IT 'dark horse' to play the famous halftime show

Katy Perry will reportedly follow in the footsteps of Madonna, Beyoncé and that weird tin foil clasp entangled with Janet Jackson’s nipple by performing during the Super Bowl halftime show.

The Super Bowl — an annual event where America stops and watches a couple of dozen bull-like men slam into each other until they get concussion, with no viable point-scoring system in evidence — isn’t scheduled until February, but the NFL is hoping to secure their traditional halftime pop act early doors to deflect from the fact that the sport has been embroiled in scandal after scandal this season.

It’s thought NFL chiefs had shortlisted Katy along with Rihanna and Coldplay, but now sources close to the decision makers have told Billboard that the Dark Horse hitmaker is now the most likely contender. She could get RiFF RaFF on stage and dump a cooler of Gatorade over him! His cornrows would bond permanently to his scalp with the sugar syrup! Worth it for that alone!

Anyway, the only sticking point is comments Katy made earlier this year, when she told ESPN’s College Game Day: “I’m not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl.”

Traditionally, half time show performers don’t receive any fee for playing the show — neither Beyoncé, Madonna or Bruno Mars got any money in exchange for their performances. But as Sportscorp Ltd. president Marc Ganis told Forbes, it sort of doesn’t matter. “This is the kind of exposure that entertainers would give their right arm for,” he said. “They could do 20 Leno and Letterman appearances and still not reach that [kind of] audience.”

Anyway the NFL has yet to comment and the last thing Katy tweeted was about candy corn so we’re not going to get a straight answer on this for a while. More fun speculation as and when we get it!
