Is Katy Perry’s new song 1984 a MASSIVE revenge dig at Taylor Swift’s 1989 album?

The war continues!

Taylor Swift may have had the upper hand ever since her new single Bad Blood broke mega world records to get the most views in one week, but her sparring partner Katy Perry could be set to regain the moral high ground.

Because Katy has recorded a new song called 1984 – the year she was born – which to us sounds like a massive dig at Tay’s album 1989.

The pair are conducting a very slow-burning public spat ever since Tay let on that Bad Blood was about a fellow female singer in the music industry who once double-crossed her by trying to poach her backing dancers ahead of a tour.

She told Rolling Stone: “For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not. She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?’”

Taylor never confirmed it was Katy by name, but when the news broke, Katy tweeted: “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing...”

She’s also hinted that we’ll get her side of the story, after telling an interviewer: “If somebody is trying to defame my character, you're going to hear about it.”

Eeesh.

The pair actually used to be really close – Katy even guest performed at one of Taylor’s shows – but their friendship hit a rocky patch when Katy started dating Tay-Tay’s ex John Mayer.

We’ve still got a while to wait until we can hear what Katy’s track is about, but we would bet some serious money that Tay’s team are having an emergency meeting this morning…
