Kerry Katona and George Kay asked their wedding guests for cash: ‘I’m bankrupt and we’ve got kids to feed’

We’ve spent the last week and a half shutting our eyes and wishing fervently we’d been at Kerry Katona’s wedding to George Kay. Just willing our body to shoot back in time until we’d found ourselves picking at an Iceland Double Layer King Prawn Ring (550g) with Ritchie Neville and making awkward small talk in the Portaloos with a sweating Kieran Hayler. WHY GOD DIDN’T OUR INVITATION TURN UP IN TIME?

Yeah, and it sounds like it was actually even better than we’d already dreamed, as Kerry revealed this week that she’d asked her guests for cash instead of registering a wishlist.

"No, I have asked for money. Just a fiver in a card will do. I’m bankrupt and I’ve got five kids to feed,” she told an interviewer.

Can you even imagine Katie Price’s face when that request turned up? And what form did it take – one of those god-awful twee poems? A hand-scrawled note in among the directions to the venue? A Facebook DM???

Kerry also admitted that she had to wear her nan’s old wedding ring because a new one was beyond her and George’s financial reach.

“I was going to buy a similar ring but it was so expensive. It was £300 and I can’t afford that,” she said.

But the good news is that one of George’s friends was nice enough to gift them a luxury honeymoon, so they’re off to the Caribbean for ten days first class. And there’s probably loads of wedding buffet leftovers for the kids to eat while they’re gone, right?
