Kim Kardashian has caused a bit of a stir on Instagram after promoting lollipops that supposedly suppress the consumer’s appetite.
(Which sound completely ridiculous.)
She posted a picture with the caption: “#ad You guys… @flattummyco just dropped a new product. They’re Appetite Suppressant Lollipops and they’re literally unreal. They’re giving the first 500 people on their website 15% OFF so if you want to get your hands on some… you need to do it quick! #suckit”.
And people aren’t happy.
One person wrote: “This is an abhorrent message to be promoting, disgusting, you should be ashamed”.
Another added: “you’re really out here promoting “APPETITE SUPPRESSANTS”? seriously Kim? If anyone is considering actually buying these because they’re trying to make themselves NOT eat, please understand that if your body is hungry, you NEED to eat. please. Eating ISN’T bad. Starving yourself and ignoring what your body needs IS bad.
Jameela Jamil, who has been a vocal critic of the Kardashians’ continual promotion of unrealistic body standards, wrote on Twitter: "No. Fuck off. No. You terrible and toxic influence on young girls. I admire their mother’s branding capabilities, she is an exploitative but innovative genius, however this family makes me feel actual despair over what women are reduced to."
She followed it up with: “MAYBE don’t take appetite suppressors and eat enough to fuel your BRAIN and work hard and be successful. And to play with your kids. And to have fun with your friends. And to have something to say about your life at the end, other than “I had a flat stomach.”
