The level of criticism Kim Kardashian got for piling on 70lb during her last pregnancy cannot be underestimated.
Her Met Gala dress was mocked around the world in countless memes, and she even made the front page of the New York Post in one unflattering outfit, with the paper crying, “Can someone please tell Kim she’s pregnant?”
That’s not even factoring in the constant scrutiny she was under when she gave birth. “For me, having people criticise what I wore and looked like when I was pregnant – that was hard,” she says. “It made me feel insecure, so I have tried to avoid the limelight more.”
But now she’s pregnant again with her first son, she isn’t hiding away. Kim’s best friend Mayte Garcia (who used to be married to Prince) tells us that the star is taking a refreshingly relaxed approach to her pregnancy and, as the constant stream of clinging, high-fashion outfits she’s modelled since the announcement show, she’s got a plan – and she won’t be shamed this time.

In an exclusive interview, Mayte – who has known Kim for more than ten years, even appearing on KUWTK – tells us Kim loves her pregnancy figure this time. “I think she’s going to embrace the changes to her body and also watch what she eats,” she says. “Kim knows she can lose it again [afterwards], she’s determined to lose it again, just to prove everybody wrong.”
And, while Kim might have some long sessions in the gym planned after her little boy’s birth, Mayte says that, on the whole, being a mum has changed Kim’s outlook on even her favourite hobby – exercising. “We used to work out before we both had children and she’d text me at night, like, ‘OK, [let’s work out] tomorrow, 5am… I have a crazy day,’” Mayte says.
“She’s very, very into her physique. But, of course, now she’s a mother… you have to make time for it, as you want to just enjoy living rather than being a slave to working out.”
Kim has echoed Mayte’s comments, saying that with two children at home, she won’t be hitting the gym like crazy and that she’ll be a little more careful with her weight-loss targets.
“I have a nutritionist and I’m trying not to eat like the first time. [Last time] I put on a lot of water weight, so I’m trying to prevent that from happening again,” she’s said. “At the end of the day, I’m trying to live in the moment and try to really enjoy the pregnancy.”
