Kym Marsh’s daughter Emilie Cunliffe determined to come back fighting after The Voice flop

She's only ever wanted to be pop star. Don't they all say that?

When Kym Marsh’s daughter Emilie Cunliffe auditioned for The Voice it could have gone one of two ways (obviously, because that’s how these shows work).

But when she didn’t make it through to the next round and judge will.i.am compared her performance to undercooked meat, it must have hurt just a little bit.

However, despite Emilie, 17, bursting into tears after leaving the stage during Saturday’s show, she’s determined to carry on following her dream.

According to The Sun, she said: “Singing is all I’ve wanted to do since I was a little girl because I enjoy it so much. It’s my dream and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

“I’m going to take every opportunity that I can and if I do get knock-backs, they make me stronger.”

Emilie denied that mum Kym, who rose to fame with band Hear’Say after being one of the winning contestants on television show Popstars in 2001, is a “pushy mum” trying to shove her into the world of showbiz with a big stick.

But she says it was great to have her Coronation Street actress mother there by her side when she tried out for the show.

Emily said: “It was really special having Mum, Dad, [Kym’s fiancé] Dan [Hooper], my brother David and my friends there but I was dead nervous before the audition.

“While I was waiting to audition I was pacing and my teeth were chattering. When I walked on stage my heart was beating so fast I could feel it in my chest.

“It was probably one of the worst performances I’ve done. I didn’t expect anyone to turn around for me. But when no one did I was devastated and cried.”

She added: “After the initial shock I was OK because I know I have to take knock-backs.

The Voice isn’t the last thing I’m going to do – it’s just the beginning. I’ve got so much determination because I want this so badly.”

Better luck next time Emilie! Hopefully in a year’s time you can give Will the prime steak he was looking for and not the undercooked chipolatas or whatever it was he thought he got this time.
