There are a lot of happy contestants this evening who’ve got through to the next stage of The Voice but let’s spare a thought to those who weren’t so lucky like 16-year-old Emilie Cunliffe from Wigan.

She’s the daughter of Kym Marsh - former member of Hear’Say and currently Corrie’s Michelle Connor. And despite facing the judges, the pressure was on for Emilie to make her mum proud – she was watching backstage with her new fiance Dan Hooper and her [Kym’s] mum – she failed to impress the judges with her version of Zedd’s Clarity.

Should she have been saved? Well, judge Tom Jones admitted that he should have pressed his button and fellow judge Ricky Wilson pressed his button but it was too late to count – as Emilie’s performance had finished.

Tom told us: “Sometimes it’s hard to say it [no] because that’s what I said when I turned around ‘I’ve made a mistake’ because she was good enough to go through. When you’re trying to decide and when you’re undecided it’s best not to put them through. Especially when you find out she’s as young as she is, because she’s got plenty of time left.”

Ricky added: “Emilie can do a Ryan Green and come back next year.”

Ah chin up Emilie, there’s always _Britain’s Got Talen_t or X Factor...
