Ed Sheeran is arguably one of the world's biggest musicians right now. In 2017 alone he's headlined the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury and broken a record by achieving a whopping SIXTEEN songs in the UK top twenty.
We mean – sixteen - how is that even possible?
But believe it or not, even at the peak of his success, there are people out there who really don't seem to like Ed. His acoustic Glastonbury set received a mixed bag of reviews, with some people being preeetty scathing about him on social media…
Ed was even forced to explain himself to his fans after all the backlash.
And now, in a dramatic turn of events, he's actually taken a Twitter hiatus, claiming he just couldn’t hack the hurtful comments he was recieving…
"I've actually come off Twitter completely," he told The Sun. "I can't read it.
"I go on it and there's nothing but people saying mean things. One comment ruins your day. But that's why I've come off it."
Oh Ed. Don't listen to the hate!
Of course, all of Ed's hardcore fanbase are absolutely devo about the news, and they had some rather harsh words for all his trolls on Twitter.
One user commented: "Poor Ed Sheeran has left Twitter because of these haters. My heart goes out to him, they were really mean to him too. Just makes me so sad..."
While another wrote: "It's so sad that Ed Sheeran had to quit twitter because of trolls. I love @edsheeran. People don't know how to be nice anymore."
And he even has a super famous supporter whose taken to social media to defend him.
After Ed's departure from the Twitter hit the headlines yesterday, Lady Gaga hit back at trolls on her Instagram, sharing a picture of herself with the Galway Girl singer, captioned: "What an incredible talented artist I LOVE ED @edsheeran deserves all our love and respect like all humans do.
"I wish all people on the internet would be positive and loving and apart of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean."
She added: "No reason to tear down an artist simply because they are on top. Work harder to be kinder everybody. That should be your first duty to humanity."
Slay sista, slay.
Maybe we should all be a bit more Gaga from now on.
