Earlier today Lady Gaga’s song Til It Happens To You was nominated for best original score at the Oscars. Her fans were overjoyed about the news but no one was happier than the lady herself. Following the news, the singer took to her Instagram to share her thoughts.
“This nomination lends a voice to victims and survivors all over the world,” Lady Gaga’s note said.
“Thank you to THE ACADEMY for recognizing the movement of people who have come together for this film and song in the name of sexual assault. Myself and Diane are simply honored to represent the voices of so many survivors.”
She added into the caption: “Myself and Diane Warren’s song Til It Happens To You, original score for The Hunting Ground was just nominated for an OSCAR!”
Lady Gaga’s co-writer Diana Warren previously spoke out about how tough the singer found the song.
“It was very emotional for her,” Diane told People. “She couldn’t even talk through it at times. I had heard she’d gone through this, so I knew she was the right artist. She broke down a few times. She was very emotional doing the song.
“She put her whole heart and soul into it.”
Lady Gaga was nominated alongside stars including Sam Smith, The Weeknd and the late Amy Winehouse.
The Oscars is set to take place in LA on 28 February.
