Oh happy, happy day – Leonardo DiCaprio has got his hands on a Golden Globe award – and it's his, all his, and no-one can take it away!

The 41-year-old star scored Best Actor at last night's glittering awards show for The Revenant, the film for which he almost died while filming because of the harsh conditions.

It's the third Golden Globe for Leo, after his wins for Wolf Of Wall Street and The Aviator, but does this mean his chances for an Oscar have just shot up?

He was up against Eddie Redmayne for* The Danish Girl* last night, but The Revenant ended up sweeping the board by winning Best Picture and Best Director.

As Leo took to the stage, he looked visibly emotional about his win.

"What an incredible honour. Wow, that meant a lot," he said.

"Two years ago we were immersed in nature [during filming]. This movie was about trust and no one was more deserving of our trust than our director. The depths to which he and the entire crew went to make this film were incredible," Leo went on.

"I want to thank my fellow actors including Tom Hardy who is a beast and who I know would never bury me alive and leave me for dead."

He also paid tribute to "all the indigenous people in the world", saying: "It is time we protect your land and heard your voices. It is time we recognise your history and protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests and people who are out there to exploit them."

There was also a hilarious bit in the ceremony where Leo sort of threw shade at/ was completely surprised by Lady Gaga as she swept past his chair to collect her gong for Best TV Actress.

LOL.
