Liam Payne and Sophia Smith are ENGAGED, if you believe everything you read on Twitter and that’s your only source of news and opinion. It wouldn’t be the first time Twitter’s got something right first time, that’s fo’ sure.

But despite all the excitement yesterday around the trending hashtag #SophiamIsEngaged, there’s been no formal announcement from Liam and Sophia’s camp yet.

However, the One Direction prankster did cause several thousand tweenagers to break out in a cold sweat when he retweeted a post from one fan that pointed out what a week the band has had.

Liam and Sophia have been dating since 2013, having first met in secondary school in Wolverhampton. He then confirmed their relationship during a press conference for the band’s This Is Us documentary film.

Since then, the couple have been going strong, with Sophia keeping a relatively low profile – though fans were treated to a rare sort-of PDA when Liam revealed the track Illusion on 1D’s album Four was written about his girlfriend.

Tentative congratulations, guys! Though you’re going to need to confirm this pretty quickly if you want to steal Jesy Nelson and Jake Roche’s engagement thunder.
