Liam Payne has upset some of his teenage following today after he posted a picture of himself smoking a cigarette to his Instagram account.
Tut tut.
The 22 year old uploaded this oh-so-edgy black and white snap of himself looking all cool and mysterious on a private jet, wearing a plaid shirt, trilby hat, and erm, smoking a ciggy. #NoCaptionNeeded.
And many of his 6.7 million followers were less than impressed, and it didn’t take long for the backlash to start.
Comments went along the lines of:
"Please stop smoking Liam. We all care about you... I'm so disappointed,"
"Many people don't get a choice to live healthy or even live in this world at all. You do @fakliampayne - choose wisely."
Another pleaded:
“Liam, please please please dont smoke. Its really bad for you and I know to many people who have died due to cancer because of smoking. Please stop.”
And some were concerned how it might affect his singing career:
“Do you have to smoke but I still love you any way but will it affect your singing.”
But many other fans were quick to jump in and defend their idol, argueing that he’s free to make his own choices in his personal life:
“If he wants/needs to smoke leave him, it’ not your decision!”
"Some people need to stop telling him to stop smoking he's 22 now and he can do what he wants. He doesn't need all his fans ganging up on him about it."
Hmm. Some valid points here, One Direction fans.
