His cousin is One Direction’s Liam Payne, but as 23-year-old Ross Harris fails to impress judges on The Voice, he says he doesn’t want to be remembered for appearing on the show.
Speaking exclusively to heat, he says: “I don’t want to be labelled Ross Harris from The Voice in the future, because a lot of people do get labelled and it affects the bigger picture.
"I also had a lot of work lined up for Ella Henderson, we’re appearing on TV shows in America for her next single which would have clashed with the next stage so I would have probably had to drop out of The Voice anyway, so it [the judges not spinning] kind of made the decision for me.”
Ross, who performed Usher’s Good Kisser on the show, is a full-time session musician and has played the drums for pop acts including Union J, The Saturdays, Neon Jungle, Ella Henderson and Laura Welch.
But despite being booted off the show, he’s glad of the exposure, adding: “It’s always been an ambition to sing, I’ve never done a singing gig – my friends and family had never seen me sing until The Voice, which is pretty cool to have a first gig and get to 10 million people.”
