Liam Payne admits he struggled with his solo career in the beginning - but the reason why is actually pretty cute.

The former One Direction star says he struggled to write music for his debut album without the band because he couldn’t stop thinking about girlfriend Cheryl.

Hunky Liam and Cheryl seem to be totally loved-up and welcomed the first child together, baby boy Bear, in March this year.

And while Cheryl offered her man plenty of encouragement when it came to going it alone in the music business, he admits he struggled to write music for himself.

He told the Daily Telegraph: “I had a bit of a problem formulating what was going on in my brain into the music at first because I was so content with everything in my personal life.

“It’s easy to spill your guts on a ballad. But I was thinking, ‘Oh god, I’m really happy - what am I going to write about?!’”

Cheryl and Liam have kept their life at home reasonably private since becoming a couple.

And, while he feels like “X Factor’s biggest winner” for attracting the affections of Cheryl, he won’t be putting any more of their life on show, especially when it comes to son Bear.

The couple want their child to have as normal a life as possible until he is old enough to make decisions about what he wants in his future.

Liam said: “We don’t want him to have the pressure that me and Cheryl have, as household names.

“We want him to enjoy himself first and then figure it out.”
