Lily Allen has spoken out about her stalker hell of seven years after a man sent a barrage of abusive letters and nasty tweets.

The singer was even approached at her home, recording studio, and had her family and friends contacted by the stalker, who she first noticed on Twitter using the handle @lilyallenRIP.

Alex Gray of Perth, Scotland was convicted of harassment and burglary and is due to be sentenced next month.

And the star says it wasn’t until her handbag was stolen that she felt the police did anything to help.

Lily told The Observer: “He would drop off these letters at my record company, my management offices, my sister’s shop, my flat.

“It was freaking me out a bit and I’m not easily scared, so the fact I went to the police with the letters shows how serious I felt it was.”

The situation became even more terrifying for the musician when the man began hiding in her garden and knocking on the door.

Things reached a head when he broke into her home last year while her children were asleep.

She said: “I had all sorts of metal shutters and locks on the doors but I’d been cooking and burned a pan and opened the back door.

“I closed it but forgot to lock it when I went to bed. I sat up and looked and the door handle was twisting round.

“The guy came steaming in and I didn’t know who he was. I recoiled and he ripped the duvet off, calling me a ‘f*cking bitch’ and yelling about where his dad is.”

She later found her handbag had been stolen and claims police only acted at this point as they were able to treat the incident as burglary.

Lily’s handbag was returned – totally burned.

She says cops were “uncomfortable” believing Alex was her stalker and that she was made to feel “like a nuisance, rather than a victim”.

The star says she was given a panic alarm but was made to return it months later and claims she wasn’t allowed to keep a picture of her stalker.

Mr Gray was arrested after his mother emailed police telling them he was planning to murder a celebrity.
