Poor Gordon Ramsay! Yes he's a bit of a scary, shouty, terrifying man but apparently a rival made sure that most of his new restaurant in Mayfair, London was empty during opening night. Which really screwed things up and left the staff a bit disheartened.

'I think there's all that level of envy. Saturday was our first big day, we had 140 on the books and 100 no show,' the TV chef said to The Telegraph.

'It's bad spirit and you see the staff and they are down and frustrated, I was there to pick them up and make sure we stay focused.'

Apparently a rival, who he won't name (IS IT JUDY FINNEGAN??) (that was a joke, please don't sue us Judy we love you), secretly block-booked 100 tables so when the restaurant opened, it'd look empty and like nobody wanted to come and eat there. And make Gordon all sad. Who knew chefs were so goddamn devious?

The restaurant, called Heddon Street Kitchen, serves modern European-style food and boasts head chef Maria Tampakis who has previously worked for Heston Blumenthal and in a range of Michelin starred restaurants.

Gordon's comments are due to be aired on the Jonathan Ross Show tonight on ITV - but how many times will he swear? We're guessing 50,000.
