Louise Redknapp has spoken out about her 19-year marriage ending for the first time.
Louise and Jamie Redknapp confirmed they were splitting back in July – but since then, neither have spoken about their marriage breaking down.
During an appearance on This Morning, Louise broke her silence, stressing that her key priority is protecting her children.
She said: “Of course we all go through hard times and my priority and his priority is our children and protecting them and keeping as much private as possible and loving them and putting them first.
“That’s really what we’re focusing on.”
Jamie and Louise have two children together, Charley, 13, and Beau, eight.
During the interview Louise also discussed how much going back to work has helped her cope with things – since splitting with Jamie, she has relaunched her music career and started performing again.
“Going back to work has been a saviour for me,” Louise said. “And it does something. It’s all about performing, and going back on stage every night – and to get the opportunity again – you don’t always get that in this business.”
She recently gave fans a glimpse of what we might expect from her pop career revival, and it seems we can expect some heartbreak ballads.
Louise rose to fame in 1993 as part of girl band Eternal. In 1995 she quit the group and embarked onto a solo music career, going on to release three platinum selling albums and a number of hit singles.
After 15 years she is planning her comeback, and is doing a tour next year.
Last year she was a runner-up in Strictly Come Dancing.
In 1998 she married footballer Jamie. Jamie stopped playing football in 2005, and he now works as a pundit at Sky Sports.
