It's not been totally plain sailing so far for Love Island's Zara Holland - she's had a tough time finding love on the show AND been stripped of her Miss Great Britain title after being a little bit naughty.

But now Zara has chosen to leave the villa due to finding out that her mother Cheryl fell ill on Saturday.

A statement from the ITV2 show read: "Owing to an illness in the family, Zara Holland has left the Love Island villa to return to the UK. Our thoughts are with her and her family and we send all of our best wishes".

Zara said upon her exit "I'm so sad to leave the villa but it's important for me to get home and spend time with my mum while she gets better. I've had the time of my life on Love Island and would like to thank all of my fellow Islanders and the production team for all their support".

However, producers of the show have said that they would "keep the door open" for Zara should she decide to return to the show.

The 20-year-old beauty queen found out that her Miss GB title had been taken away on Thursday following having sex with fellow Islander Alex Bowen - showed on Wednesday night's episode.

After the show aired, the executives from the Miss GB pageant announced that they had decided to take Zara's title away - leaving pageant runner-up Deone Robertson to inherit the Miss GB crown. They said:

"We feel it important to explain that we have no problem at all with sex and our contestants/winners being sexually active and exploring their sexuality with another consensual adult. This has never, and will never be a problem. However, we simply cannot condone a reigning title holder doing so on TV. To put it into context... if a school teacher took part in the show, that person would have a level of responsibility they would be expected to uphold because of their role, and are certain they would face similar consequences if they took part in similar actions on national television.

"For those saying "going into Love Island, it's inevitable that she would have sex, that is not true. It is not a prerequisite of the show that you have sex.

"We gave our permission for Zara to enter, as our current winner, under the stipulation that she did not have sex on TV. Zara fully agreed to this and knowingly went against our wishes".

We wish Zara's mum well, and of course we wonder... Will Zara choose to return?
