Madonna has become the latest celebrity to come under criticism for her tribute to the victims of the Manchester bombing, which killed 22 people and injured 59 others on Monday night.

Madonna took to Instagram to share a photograph of herself posing with Ariana Grande – whose performing at Manchester Arena where the attack took place – along with the caption: "Thank Goodness my friend is OK. Lets all pray for the innocent victims who are not ok (sic). For their families and for Manchester."

However, Madonna's choice of photo didn’t sit too well with some of her followers, who criticised her for focussing the tribute on herself.

One wrote: "She should NOT use such a tragedy for self-promotion!!! Another picture and words would fit better!!!!"

Another commented: "Posting a photo posing is insensitive and so typical @madonna."

Others thought she should have focussed more on the young victims of the attack, writing: "Being thankful that Ariana is ok should have come at the end of her post, it should have been respect for the dead children that should be foremost in people’s minds not being thankful that ur multi $$ celeb friend is safe, very selfish post by @madonna [sic]"

However, others were quick to defend the singer, praising her for her tribute, explaining: "To the haters: sometimes, a tribute is just a tribute. Madonna posted a picture to express her concerns about what happened in Manchester. The picture choice is not a problem; the real problem is what happened in Manchester. Let's try to keep our minds focused on what matters."

This comes after Kim Kardashian came under fire for her choice of post.

Alongside of a picture of her, her sister Kendall Jenner, and Ariana Grande in a crowd, she wrote: "Concerts are supposed to be a place where u can let loose & have fun. So scary to not feel safe in this world. @arianagrande I love you."

Many have questioned why she’d choose that particular picture for the tribute. In it, wshe seems to be the centre of attention, as well as literally being central in the frame.

One person wrote: "We're never going to forget when you posted an inappropriate pic and made the Manchester boming all about you. (Screenshots are forever)."
