“It was magical”: Derek Hough reveals all about sister Julianne Hough’s engagement

It’s nice when siblings get along and don’t fight over the TV remote and still sometimes secretly kick each other at the age of, like, 27, isn’t it?

We can put Derek and Julianne Hough into the box, anyway. Because Derek is WELL CHUFFED about* Dancing With The Stars* judge Julianne’s engagement to hockey player Brooks Laich.

"[I’m] so excited," Derek told Insider.

"We actually spent the week at the lake house and all the family was there, the kids, nieces and nephews. And we spent the most magical, amazing week together and then at the very end [they] got engaged.

“[Brooks is] a great guy, I just couldn’t be happier for them.”

How lovely!

Derek also revealed that Brooks did the whole traditional thing and actually asked their dad, Bruce, if he could marry Julianne before asking her (always a weird one, that – what if dad says yes, and daughter says no? Doesn’t bear thinking about, does it?).

Anyway, it all worked out just fine with Brooks and Bruce, says Derek:

"They locked themselves out on a deck — they were out there for a good two hours talking so I kind of had an idea. I was like, 'Oh, ok. I see what’s happening!’”

Looks like the whole Hough-y, dance-y family is very excited about Julianne’s upcoming nuptials.

Julianne wrote on Instagram:

"We are overwhelmed with joy and excitement to share with you our recent engagement! #fiancé #love."

And she’s showing her ring off in that photo, by the way – not doing a “talk to the hand”.
