Now we’ve all been told that maggots are a smashing source of protein. But that’s just not enough of a reason for us to start chomping down on those little guys. Not even if they’ve been flambéed to hell and back, and then covered in a gallon of garlic mayo.

So you can imagine how a certain ‘unnamed 48-year-old man’ felt when he popped into one of Jamie Oliver’s restaurants in Norwich and was showered with the little pink blighters.

Yup. He was literally rained on by wriggly maggots.

The diner – who we can only assume has been waking up in cold sweats ever since his maggoty dinner on Wednesday – told The Mirror he initially felt something moving on his head and brushed it off assuming the it was a caterpillar, which must have fallen in his hair while he was walking to the restaurant.

“But then others fell onto the table. It was gross and we were shocked,” he told the newspaper.

“It was like spaghetti, a salad for my friend and a side order of maggots.”

Erm, sorry to laugh, but… lol.

“I called over a waitress and she said, ‘oh my god', then another landed whilst she was there and made her jump. In the end the manager came over and spoke to us and waived the bill and then we left.

He added he is still not “100 per cent sure” he did not accidentally eat one.

Excuse us while we just go spew continuously for 24 hours.

A spokesman for Jamie's Italian said: “Earlier this week a single, isolated pest control incident occurred at our Norwich restaurant.

“The incident in question was dealt with immediately and is being fully investigated. At no point was the customer's food affected and there appears to be no evidence of a wider problem.

“All of our restaurants operate to a very high level of food safety and Jamie's Italian Norwich retains a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating (the highest) from the local Environmental Health Office.

“Issues such as this are extremely rare within the JO Restaurant Group and are always treated immediately.”
