Look, we don’t want a lot for Christmas. There is just one thing we need. We don’t care so much about the presents underneath the Christmas tree. We just want Mariah Carey to go home, wrap herself in a massive scarf, sip a pint of hot lemon and honey, then maybe think about her life choices.
Because the diva’s performance at the glitzy Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lights switch-on was… well. How do we say this without getting into trouble with the lawyers? It was different. Like, bad different. Have a listen for yourself.
Yup. Mariah’s vocal rendition of her All I Want For Christmas hit – which was genuinely released 20 YEARS AGO last month – was leaked this week after her Wednesday performance, and the singer is said to be #FUMING about it.
There’s speculation an NBC employee might have accidentally-on-purpose leaked the audio of her isolated vocals as revenge for her turning up more than 24 hours late to the recording, as she had failed to come to the pre-record session on Tuesday.
A source told the New York Daily News’ Confidenti@l column: “It’s really hard to leak ‘just’ audio. Mariah is blaming producers for leaking her audio track. She believes they did it to punish her for not showing up to taping the day before the live event.”
But a rep for the star said anyone could have recorded her vocals because she used a wireless microphone, adding that she “performed beautifully”.
Debateable.
BTW - someone's already done a shreds version. It's predictably amazing.
