Mary Berry has quit The Great British Bake Off days after the BBC announced the show would be moving to Channel 4 in 2018.
And you know what's worse? Paul Hollywood has decided to STAY for the next three series, even though it'll just be him and three randomers eating sad cake in a tent.
AND THERE'LL BE AD BREAKS.
Remember when Zayn Malik said he wanted to be a "normal 22-year-old"? Well, the heartbreak we shouldered as a nation that day is nothing compared to what we're feeling at the news that Mary Berry is leaving GBBO.
"My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one," the 81-year-old said in a statement.
"What a privilege and honour it has been to be part of seven years of magic in a tent.
"I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change, I hope they understand my decision."
She added: "The Bake Off family - Paul, Mel and Sue - have given me so much joy and laughter."
"I wish the programme, crew and future bakers every possible success and I am so very sad not to be a part of it."
Tear dribbling down your cheek into your morning coffee? Prepare to be broken.
Mary added: "Farewell to soggy bottoms."
SOB.
This is what Paul Hollywood had to say for himself: “I am delighted that I will be continuing as a judge when Bake Off moves to Channel 4. I want to thank the BBC and Mel and Sue for making my time in the tent great fun and really rewarding.”
“Since I was a kid, baking has been part of my life. The seven series inside the tent have created some great memories. Best of all, I have felt so pleased to experience other people getting the baking bug, just as I did when my dad helped me make my first loaf.
The 50-year-old said the show had been “been a huge part of my life in the past few years and I just couldn’t turn my back on all that – the bakers themselves, the bakes, the team that makes it, and of course the tent, the bunting, and who could forget… the squirrels”.
In news that has cheered us up teeny weeniest amount, the beeb have hinted that this won't be the last that we see of Mary Berry.
BBC director of content Charlotte Moore said: “Mary is an extraordinary woman, loved and adored by the British public, and the BBC is her natural home.
“I’ve been very lucky to have had the pleasure of working with Mary over the last seven years and I’m so pleased that relationship will continue.
“She is an inspiration to generations, a real icon and I can’t wait to cook up more unmissable shows with her in the future.”
Can't we just have Bake Off under a different name? Cake Off? B*ke Off?
This follows Mel and Sue's announcement that they won't be returning to GBBO.
The pair said in a statement:
"We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home. We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.
"The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of two million to nearly 15 million at its peak. We've had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.
"We're not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success."
It's thought that it was dough that made Love Productions, who make the show, shift teams to Channel 4.
It's alleged that C4 stumped up £25million while the Beeb currently pay £200,000 per slot for Bake Off, and they were being asked to quadruple that figure.
Rumoured top contenders to replace Mary include Nigella Lawson, James Martin, Marco Pierre White, Delia Smith and Jamie Oliver (we're still mourning the loss of turkey twizzlers tbh).
Perhaps an A-lister will step in and save us? T-Swift? Cheryl? Kim K? SOMEONE? Perhaps we should set up a GoFundMe? Bake sale, anyone?
