Keira Knightley’s husband has been in the headlines today after it was claimed the singer only earned £5,000 last year. According to reports, James’ company (Galloping Faster), which he owns with with his Klaxon bandmates, Jamie Reynolds and Simon Taylor-Davis, made just £14,844 in 12 months.

Meanwhile, his wife Keira’s company Kck Boo pulled in £4.1 million.

Ouch.

Does it matter if you earn more than your boyfriend?

But is it really a problem? Keira’s made no secret of the fact her and James live a pretty frugal lifestyle, regardless of the balance of their bank accounts. In 2012, Keira paid herself just £30,000 out of the £1.5 million her company bagged and previously said: “I think living an [expensive] lifestyle means you can't hang out with people who don't live that lifestyle.

“It alienates you. Some of my best most hilarious times have been in the least luxurious places. “I mean, if I want or need something that goes over that [her yearly allowance], I get it.”

Keira’s not alone in being the main breadwinner in the celebrity world. Kate Moss, Nicole Richie, Gisele and Anne Hathaway all reportedly earn more than their partners.
