Hollywood brought her fame, the royal family brought her notoriety, and now politics is set to bring Meghan Markle a really large white house. New reports say the Duchess of Sussex has set her sights on becoming the next US President, as she gives politically savvy interviews around legislature and voting.

While insiders say it’s just the start of her mission to prove a point to everyone who ever doubted her – including the royal family – her critics have called her “delusional” and say her bid is likely to end in defeat and embarrassment.

The Duchess of Sussex has been making doing her political homework

“Meghan is convinced she’d be a huge success in politics and is taking it incredibly seriously,” says an insider close to the 40 year old, who married Prince Harry in 2018, with the couple later becoming parents to three-year-old Archie and Lilibet, one.

“She’s convinced there’s a huge opportunity here and is looking to run in the 2028 elections. In the meantime, she’ll spend her time studying hard, schmoozing with all the right people, and building her reputation within the Democratic Party. She’s determined to prove herself and has zero doubt she can reach the pinnacle of US politics. After all, if Donald Trump managed to somehow huff and puff his way to the White House, so can Meghan.”

Last week, the former Suits star dropped hints that she wanted to get more involved in law-making, telling political activist Gloria Steinem in a Vogue interview how important it was for “everyone getting out to vote… This is a moment that I am absolutely going to show up for”. And, in a key quote picked up by many online, she added to the famed feminist, “Well, Gloria, it seems as though you and I will be taking a trip to DC together soon.”

Fans were immediately in an uproar, as reporter Dan Wootton accused the star of being “obsessed” with running for office, adding that her “delusional bid” couldn’t possibly succeed. He claimed that palace aides had told him even as far back as 2019, “The royal family now is just a stepping stone to something she considers far more important and attractive.”

US TV journo Meghan McCain also weighed in, writing, “We need more than an ex-C list actress-turned-royal with no civic or political experience to speak of... I thought Democrats were sick and tired of celebrity presidents.”

The former actress has previously worked with the UN on behalf of gender equality and empowerment. She and Prince Harry have also broken with a royal tradition of impartiality, throwing their support behind Joe Biden at the 2020 election. In fact, the now-Prez’s sister, Valerie Biden Owens, later declared that “of course” Meghan would make a good candidate for the presidency.

heat’s source continues, “Meghan would relish the opportunity to campaign for equal opportunities, with Harry by her side as First Gentleman. She believes her experience with the royals will hold her in good stead for a career in politics. Harry’s in awe of her, and said from day one that she’s got more star quality than anyone he’s ever met. She’s spent many hours patiently explaining the ins and outs of the American political system to him – from how Congress works to the mechanics of local elections. He truly believes that Meghan is a genius, who’s destined to govern at the very top.”

It would be a(nother) new direction for Meghan, after the couple quit royal life in 2020, moving to California, where they signed a $100million deal with Netflix. As heat’s told you, that plan is looking increasingly shaky, as the streaming giant cancels or sidelines their projects. “She and Harry are alarmed by the volatility with Netflix,” says the insider. “But they’re still very motivated to succeed in America. If Meghan can wake up one morning in the White House, she’ll have vanquished those doubters and then some.

“If she can’t be Queen of Great Britain, she wants to be Queen of America.”
