Mel B and her husband Stephen Belafonte have strongly denied he is being investigated by police following an alleged incident between the pair.

Rumours were rife about the state of the couple’s marriage in December after X Factor judge Mel failed to show up for the first half of the final of the show.

Viewers and fans expressed their concern for the singer when she returned for the very last live episode of the series due to her exhausted appearance, after it was claimed she’d been in hospital for a few days with a mystery illness.

But it is now being widely reported an incident occurred between the pair in the days leading up to the X Factor final which the Metropolitan Police are allegedly investigating, according to The Sun.

However, the couple refute claims of an incident between them, with a spokesperson for Mel telling the MailOnline: “Both Mel and Stephen categorically deny this is true and the police have not contacted Stephen.”

Mel added on Twitter: “Pls don’t believe what you read it’s all lies lies lies as usual.”

The couple, who married in 2007, have put on a united front since the speculation in December and have posted picture online of themselves looking happy together.

And Stephen has previously spoken out to deny anything happened between him and Mel which would have led to her absence from the* X Factor* final.

He has not responded to the latest reports.
