Michael J Fox underwent a brain drilling procedure to treat his Parkinson's disease, according to his neurologist, Dr Allan Ropper.

Speaking to Radio 5 Live, Dr Ropper explained that using the technique to cause many “small strokes” can “kill tremors”.

Michael J Fox was diagnosed with the early-onset Parkinson's back in 1991, when he was merely thirty-years-old. Apparently he received a lot of criticism at the time of the procedure, as it wasn’t considered to be a conventional method.

"There are more modern techniques now which are stimulators, but as outlined in the book, Mr Fox did not want the contraption," Dr Ropper explained.

Michael appeared in a Back To The Future computer game back in 2011, received an honorary degree from the Justice Institute of British Columbia in 2012 and has a cameo in 2014's Annie remake, where he plays himself.
