The title of Miranda Hart’s memoir I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You couldn’t be more appropriate, because it turns out the actress and comedian has been keeping several things from us over the past few years – namely that she’s married.

Promoting the book last week, Miranda, revealed, ‘Someone’s put a ring on it. I got married at 51 and it’s just so lovely! I’d written Gary for onscreen Miranda, and it wasn’t until I was 49 that I met my person. He’s my best friend, we had the best fun, and I’m just thrilled to be a young bride at 51.’

And in her book, the star details how ‘The Boy from Bristol’, as she’s dubbed him, proposed to her in London’s Kew Gardens.

She writes, ‘We stood still on the bridge overlooking the lake when the silence was pierced as he rather seriously said, “Miranda”. I turned around, and as I did, he got down on one knee. I don’t remember anything else because I simply burst out crying, apparently saying yes before he had finished the sentence – awkward if he’d been tying a shoelace.’

While the star is keen to keep her husband’s identity a secret, she has revealed that they met during lockdown when, in his role as a surveyor, he came to fix a mould problem at her home. And while we don’t know his name, she has gushed about his ‘fine features’ and ‘salt-and-pepper grey hair’, and given fans a brief glimpse of his hand on Instagram.

As well as discussing her love life, Miranda also opened up about her three-decade struggle with chronic fatigue after being diagnosed with Lyme disease.

She said, ‘When I was about 14 or 15, I got a tick-borne illness... that’s when my symptoms started. Unless you’ve had fatigue, you don’t understand what literally not getting off the floor is. I was basically bed-bound and housebound. There’d be times where I’d look at a glass of water, and think, “I don’t know how to pick that up”.’
