Stalking the cast of this summer’s Love Island on social media and catching up with all their post-villa antics and endorsements is without a doubt one of our favourite pastimes. Particularly when we learn about certain Islanders’ choice of public appearances (kebab shop anyone? What about Poundland?) or we get the latest juicy goss on the next Love Island wedding.
But it’s also heartwarming to see the Islanders get behind important campaigns close to their heart.
Chris Hughes recently teamed with suicide prevention charity CALM to encourage men to open up about their emotions.
Now Montana Brown has joined forces with CRY – a charity working to reduce the frequency of sudden cardiac death in young people and provide support for those affected – for their #Cry4Friends campaign.
And yesterday she delivered a heartfelt speech to the House of Commons.
During her speech, Montana opened up about her own experience of losing a close friend at a young age. Her friend Harry passed away following a cardiac arrest aged 17.
“At the time, I remember feeling so much guilt, because in my heat Harry was honestly the most selfless and admirable person I knew at school,” she said in her speech.
“I used to wake up every morning with a rash from head to toe, because I was in such a fight with myself whether or not it was real life.”
She went on to emphasise the importance of the work carried out by CRY.
“A charity like CRY could have helped me so very much when I was in my teens.
“I hope this gives children and adults a place to go and talk about their feeling and speak to help them through the torment that so many people go through on their own."
