Shilpa Dandekar was with her husband and daughter when they were involved in the crash in Richmond, south London.

At the time, Faheem Dandekar, the daughter’s father, hit out at Ant – saying he could have put his daughter in a wheelchair.

But Shilpa has now spoken out in support of Ant, telling OK!: "Of course, concern for my family’s safety was always paramount, which I’m sure he considered when addressing the whole matter to the public.

"I feel for what he’s going through and hope he pulls through."

Ant McPartlin was fined £86,000 and handed a 20 month road ban after pleading guilty to drink driving at Wimbledon Magistrates Court earlier this week.

The court heard that he had 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath; more than twice the legal limit of 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres.

In a letter read out in court, Ant said he 'accepts full responsibility' and he let himself 'and so many others down;' admitted he's been left 'ashamed and mortified' by his actions.

He crashed his mini in Richmond, south London, on 21 March – and was arrested after failing a breathalyser test.

Ant has pulled out of foreseeable TV commitments, and Dec Donnelly will host the Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals alone.

An ITV rep said: "Dec will be hosting the live shows which for the first time ever are coming from the Hammersmith Apollo while Ant steps down from his TV commitments for now."
