After being accused of scratching photographer Gaetano Di Giovanni, Naomi Campbell was found guilty of assault on Friday.
The incident occurred when the 45-year-old model hit the photographer with her handbag while on holiday with then-boyfriend Russian billionaire Vladimir Doronin in 2009.
The pair were walking across Lipar, a Sicilian island, when the assault took place, after the supermodel realised he had taken shots of the pair.
Giovanni sought medical treatment after the attack, and it took several days for him to recover, the courts heard. He told the courts in 2013: “I had just started taking some shots of her and I did not expect such a violent reaction.”
Naomi has since been convicted of assault, and has and has received a six month suspended prison sentence.
But her lawyer Guido Carlo Alleva reports that they intend to appeal, stating:
“We are appealing the ruling surrounding the 2009 incident. Due to the ongoing legal process, we cannot discuss the matter further at this time."
