Nathan Massey and Cara de la Hoyde’s is up there with Cheryl and Liam Payne’s and Beyonce and Jay Z’s on our list of unexpected pregnancy announcements of the year, and we are absolutely over the moon for the Love Island pair.
Unfortunately, the announcement came just weeks after they revealed they’d split, and Cara told OK! magazine at the time that it was a ‘sad situation’.
She said: “It’s a shame and a sad situation. I know a lot of people will think, well you’re going to have a baby together so just stay together – but we’re not going to do that just to look like the perfect couple.
"Me and Nathan would always speak about kids, we said maybe when we’re 30, but sometimes life doesn’t go to plan."
Nathan took to Twitter to confirm the news that he was to be a dad, writing: "Yes it's true..I'm going to be a Dad. Its an emotional time for me and I'm overwhelmed by all the support from both my family and friends”.
We caught up with Nathan’s pal and Love Island co-star Scott Thomas to quiz him about how he’s doing.
He told us: “I think he was a bit surprised by it, but they’ve just got to deal with it now and just think about what’s best for the kid.”
And when we asked how Nathan’s handling the news, he admitted: “He needs his friends right now, as he’s obviously going through a lot. He’s still the happy chappy that I met, but he’s obviously got a lot to deal with. He’ll get through it like the man he is.”
We also asked whether he knew if Cara wanted to be a mum, to which he said: “I don’t know, but I know that Cara’s always been very broody and always wanted a kid - she said it openly. I don’t know about Nathan - it’s their business. But I’m sure whatever happens they will be great parents.”
