One Direction insisted they were going to get back together after a year off but it seems that’s not going to happen.

The lads - Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles - seem to be quite content to work on their own projects and are in no rush to reform as a band.

And Niall is apparently preparing to launch an assault on the charts with the help of Simon Cowell’s record company Syco rather than get back together with his musical mates.

“Niall is the band’s secret weapon - [management] Modest and Syco believe he has what it takes to become a break out solo star,” an insider told The Sun.

“He has the songwriting and musical talent, good looks and cheeky Irish personality which made him a favourite in the States.

“A deal with Syco is going to be signed in the coming weeks and Niall is already back in the studio writing.

“There’s a hit single there too, which will probably be released early next year.”

Niall spoke of his happiness over 1D’s decision to take a break at the recent Horan & Rose charity event, telling Digital Spy: “It’s been brilliant. It actually doesn’t feel like we’ve been off - it’s been, like, six months already.”

With only six months left of the time they originally intended to take off, it doesn’t look like a reunion will be on the cards any time soon if Niall and his bandmates are making so many other big plans.

Harry has been filming for his role in war film Dunkirk and Louis is planing a television career, having signed up with the same agency that looks after Ant and Dec, and Holly Willoughby.

“Louis is very interested in the world of TV,” a source said.

“He is considering opportunities both in front of the camera, including documentaries, and behind-the-scenes as a producer.

“He is still going to be involved in music through his record company and was recently back in the studio writing. But it’s unlikely he’ll be releasing a solo record in the near future.

“He was a guest judge on America’s Got Talent recently and did a brilliant job.”
