Nicki Minaj has opened up for the first time about her difficult decision to have an abortion a teenager, saying she thought she “was going to die”.
The rapper fell pregnant while she was at high school and made the heartbreaking choice not to have the baby as she thought she was too young to bring up a child.
She told Rolling Stone: “I thought I was going to die. I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through.
“[It’s] haunted me all of my life. It’d be contradictory if I said I wasn’t pro-choice. I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have anything to offer a child.”
The star did not reveal the exact age she fell pregnant but it is thought it was whilst she was studying at LaGuardia performing arts school in New York.
She has referred to her secret before in her 2008 song Autobiography and also referred to it in new track All Things Go but has never spoken openly about it before.
