She's the runaway success story of 2021 so far, and now High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (catchy) star Olivia Rodrigo has finally opened up about the subject of her smash single drivers licence.
In what we've dubbed the Gen Z equivalent of Eamon and Frankee's iconic early-noughties beef, Olivia's UK number one track's sent the internet into overdrive with speculation it's about potential-ex-boyfriend and co-star Joshua Bassett.
If you've been living under a rock, get yourself caught up on the whole drama here.
Well now Olivia's finally addressed the speculation; and we're more confused than ever at this point.
Opening up about the rumours her hit's written about HSMTMTS co-star Joshua Bassett and his potential-new-girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia told Billboard, "I totally understand people’s curiosity with the specifics of who the song’s about and what it’s about, but to me, that’s really the least important part of the song."
That's all well and good, babes, but we need THE TEA.
High School Musical OG cast: where are they now?
High School Musical cast - where are they now?
Zac Efron as Troy Bolton
Troy Bolton had that long fringe waaaay before Justin Bieber came onto the scene. He loved Gabriella but was torn between singing and basketball and of course, he had that dad who was trying to make his son live out his own dream. Classic.
Zac Efron now
After High School Musical 3 ended, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens continued to date but it wasn't to last and after four years together they split. He has been rumoured to date Taylor Swift, Rebecca Ferguson (The Greatest Showman actress not from The X Factor) and Lily Collins. He's continued acting and has been seen in 17 Again, Baywatch and The Greatest Showman.
Vanessa Hudgens as Gabriella Montez
Gabriella Montez - Now we look back at her we realise how annoying she was. Every minute she was singing for no apparent reason. Also let's not forget when she went to university without telling anyone - including her boyfriend Troy. Rude.
Vanessa Hudgens now
After starring on High School Musical, Vanessa Hudgens went on to launch her singing career. She then took a break from singing and returned to acting and starred in Beastly, The Princess Switch and Baby Boys for Life. After splitting from Zac Efron and apparently seeing Josh Hutcherson, she went on to date Austin Butler (very fit, tbh) but they split after 10 years together. We're still devo about it.
Ashley Tisdale as Sharpay Evans
We feel bad that it took us years to realise that Sharpay Evans was a true queen. All she wanted to do was sing and help Troy with his career but Gabriella arrived and messed everything up.
Ashley Tisdale now
Before starring on High School Musical, Disney fans knew Ashley Tisdale as Maddie Fitzpatrick in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. She's since released three albums, starred in Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure and appeared in Scary Movie 5. She's also married and you can see her hubby in her TikTok videos.
Lucas Grabeel as Ryan Evans
Ahh Ryan. Deep down he was a good guy who just went along with his sister's plan to ruin Troy and Gabriella's relationship - obsessed. Towards the end of the trilogy he went on to date Kesli. Bless.
Lucas Grabeel now
Lucas Grabeel has continued acting in The Adventures of Food Boy, he starred on Family Guy and appeared on Smallville. If you have a scroll on his Instagram account you'll see photos of him travelling around the world.
Corbin Bleu as Chad Danforth
Ahh Chad Danforth. Troy's BFF and well known for singing he can't dance, despite the fact he was dancing throughout the entire song. He was obsessed with basketball and in the third movie he plucked up the courage to ask Taylor out to the dance.
Corbin Bleu now
As well as starring on High School Musical; Corbin went on feature in Disney's movie Jump In!, star on the Broadway show In The Heights and Dancing with the Stars. He has also released two albums and married his wife in 2016 after meeting her in a supermarket. Obsessed.
Monique Coleman as Taylor McKessie
Taylor McKessie was quick to take Gabriella under her wing but when Gabs' singing started preventing her from putting her all into the science club, she teamed up with Chad to stop the lovebirds from singing. She soon changed her tune and ended up being BFF's with Gabriella.
Monique Coleman now
Fun fact Monique Coleman was actually 26 when she played the role of teenage Taylor in the first High School Musical movie. She's since gone on to star on Dancing with the Stars and got married on Valentine's Day in 2012.
Chris Warren as Zeke
Ahh Zeke Baylor - bless him. He just wanted to bake and pursue things with Sharpay Evans.
Chris Warren now
Chris Warren has since gone on to star in Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 and Disney's Good Luck Charlie.
Olesya Rulin as Kelsi
Kelsi Neilsen was an unproblematic student who was bullied by Sharpay. She appeared to fancy Jason Cross but in the third movie she took a liking to Ryan Evans.
Olesya Rulin now
Since High School Musical 3 ended, Olesya Rulin has continued to act. She's also got a glam AF Instagram account.
Kaycee Stroh as Martha
We were a big fan of Martha Cox who loved to "pop and lock and jam and break". We can totally relate, tbh.
Kaycee Stroh now
Kaycee Stroh has continued to act and welcome two girls into the world. She also tied the knot in 2009 and her High School Musical cast mates attended the wedding. Cute.
Bart Johnson as Coach Bolton
Coach Jack Bolton is pretty much every dad in every film - didn't pursue his own dream so wants his son to do it instead. However towards the end he finally accepted that his son wanted to plan basketball AND sing - can you believe it?
Bart Johnson now
Bart Johnson acted waaay before HSM and he has continued after. He also owned a B&B but transformed it into a centre for people recovering from drug addiction.

Olivia continued, "It’s resonating with people because of how emotional it is, and I think everything else is not important."
It's important to us, but maybe we need to reassess our lives tbh.
Chatting about the success of the single, Olivia gushed, "To see it do really well — to have this really painful moment in my life, and turn it into something beautiful that can maybe help people through a tough time that they’re having, like I was having a tough time — it’s just so empowering. And I feel grateful that I got to do that."
The ball's in your court now, Joshua. Is your new tune Lie Lie Lie about Olivia? WE DEMAND ANSWERS.
