It’s not been an easy few months for one of our favourites, Olly Murs, as he and Caroline Flack dealt with a fair amount of criticism of their X Factor presenting.

But there seemed to be one final snub for Olly on The X Factor final on Sunday night as Rita Ora made a passionate speech about winner Louisa Johnson, saying: “There’s only two people in my opinion that have made this impression and that’s Leona [Lewis] and Louisa.”

All well and good, Rita – except former X Factor contestant Olly was stood right next to her at the time.

The internet went totally mad, with people Tweeting like crazy and making videos of the moment, focusing on Olly’s face after the comment.

But this afternoon, when we caught up with Olly at Spotify HQ, where he was playing a special gig for the music service, he told us he was baffled by the internet’s reactions.

Asked if he gave Rita a nudge backstage for her comments, he exclusively told heatworld: “No! I knew nothing about it to be honest with you. I heard what she said onstage and I just presumed straight away that was her talking about, Leona Lewis was a girl and she was in the girls category, I didn’t think anything else.

“I just laugh about it, I didn’t at all get offended about it. Me and Rita are mates, I don’t think she intended it like that at all. It was blown out of proportion. You could say anything on X Factor and it gets blown out of proportion.”

He added: “[All series] there’ve been some great videos online I’ve been watching, just hilarious.”

So there you have it – Olly Murs’ sense of humour is very much intact. Well done that man.
