Olly Murs is many things: unlikely sex symbol (we imagine he still blushes when a lady makes eyes at him on the train), some-time footy player, world-famous singer who's built a successful career on the back of The X Factor… y'know, no big deal.

But he is, above all, extremely loveable, as he proved when we got him to dress up in his old school uniform and recreate the picture he took back when he were a lad.

Oh, and it fits perfectly with the theme of his new single, Grow Up, which was a lucky coincidence.

In this week's heat magazine, Olly admits he used to have a huge crush on both the Beckhams (he even walked around with a photo of them in his wallet for years), opened up about losing his X Factor presenting gig AND spoke out about his and Caroline Flack's relationship.

What REALLY happened with X Factor?

"My only answer to that is nothing, really. We had a great time and we only ever signed up for a year. Everyone wants to find out what actually happened but I got to the end of my contract with Sony and I went away at Christmas and reevaluated what was important, and music was more important to me than anything else."

And…

"I was working on the biggest TV show in the country and it was always going to be difficult because people are always going to compare you to former presenters. It's a bit like when Chris Evans did Top Gear and everyone went on about Jeremy Clarkson."

Was it a difficult decision to make?

"No but part of me really wanted to go back for a second year because I felt like me and Caroline had a lot more to offer. It was our first year and we were finding our feet."

A lot was made of your slip-up (Olly announced that the wrong person was going home during one of the eliminations). That can't have been much fun

"I made a mistake and I laugh about now. It was funny. You learn from it and you move on. It pissed me off but everyone makes mistakes and it was cool. People forget that I'd only done seven shows before that one, and they think it's easy and it ain't. I'm not used to being in a situation like that. Everyone forgets that Caroline was the most experienced presenter and I was a pop star being a bit like 'hello! I'm here!'"

Are you and Caroline still close friends?

"We still get on well, yeah. We haven't seen each other for a while because we're in two different jobs at the moment. But if we see each other at an event we'll say hello. We've both got our own lives."
