One Direction’s This Is Us director: ‘Zayn struggled the most’

The director behind One Direction’s phenomenally successful documentary This Is Us has spoken out in support of Zayn Malik following his dramatic departure from the band.

Morgan Spurlock- who also starred and directed hit movie Supersize Me- got to know Zayn, 22, and the rest of the band whilst filming them behind the scenes on tour.

He told Huffington Post: “I think he was the one who struggled with it the most.

“And being away, being on the road, being away from his girlfriend I think finally just got to him, and I think he said, "I’m done."'

Morgan added:”He wanted nothing more than to sit in his house and spray paint and draw and do art, and I think this explosion that happened to him - which was something none of them ever predicted.”

Zayn recently jetted off on holiday with fiancee Perrie Edwards, days after he was spotted in a London recording studio with producer Naughty Boy.

The ex boy band member quit 1D during the Asian leg of their world tour. He left amid reports that he had cheated on Perrie with a British fan in Thailand.
