The 2016 MOBO Awards took place in Glasgow last night, and in the midst of the glitz and glamour there was a slightly embarrassing mishap when presenters Rickie Haywood-Williams and Melvin Odoom announced the wrong winners of the ‘Best Song’ award.
WSTRN were accidentally announced as the winners of the top prize and the London trio even got up and gave an acceptance speech before it was revealed the award should have gone to Abra Cadabra featuring Krept and Konan.
Awwwwkward!
Ricky revealed the faux-pas, saying: “OK, so ladies and gentleman, we’re extremely sorry but somebody picked up the wrong envelope for best song earlier on. The wrong winners were announced. So… we need to correct that.
“It gives me great pleasure to announce that MOBO 2016 Best Song goes to Abra Cadabra Ft. Krept and Konan - Robbery” .
The production team later tweeted their own apology, with Simon Pizey writing: “I’m sorry it shouldn’t have happened and apologise especially to @MOBOawards, @ITV2 and @WSTRN.
“In over 20 years of live TV we’ve never made a mistake like this, but due to human error the wrong winner for MOBO best song was announced tonight.”
Later on in the ceremony Craig David celebrated his ninth MOBO award for Best Male.
